The problem with the tools
Almost everything sold to schools and families is organized around the wrong unit. Grade level tells you how many birthdays a child has had. It does not tell you what a child can do. Tutoring apps drill the grade. Report cards grade the grade. And a child sits in the gap between what the paperwork says and what is actually true, sometimes for years, because no tool is built to notice.
The other failure is softer. Most education software is designed to make everyone feel good: green checkmarks, inflated mastery, progress bars that only go up.
It is pleasant, and it is how a family gets blindsided in March.
What PathwayEd does instead
PathwayEd is built on two commitments, and everything else follows from them.
First, meet the child where they are. PathwayEd finds what a child actually knows and teaches from there. A kid who is behind gets the gap closed without being paraded. A kid who is ahead keeps going, even past their grade.
Grade level is a starting point, never a ceiling and never a cage.
Second, tell the truth. Mastery is claimed only when graded work backs it up, not when a student says they understand and not because they sat through a lesson. The reports are sometimes less flattering than a parent hoped. That is the point. When PathwayEd says a child has it, they have it, and when it says they are stuck, the family found out early enough to matter.
The same teaching everywhere
One more thing makes this different: there is no school version and home version. The tutor a family subscribes to is the same one a school runs under staff supervision, with the same mastery record underneath. A child covered by their school keeps their progress. A family can see the same truth a teacher sees. Nobody gets a watered-down copy.
