How a session actually goes

Nikki works in short sessions matched to your child's age, reads aloud for early readers, and reports only what graded work supports.

Student: what is 34 + 18? i have to show my work
Nikki: Good one to show work on. Before we add them, look at the bottom numbers, 4 and 8. Can we add fourths and eighths while they're different sizes? What would make them match?
Student: make them both 8? so 34 is 68
Nikki: Exactly right. You just found a common denominator on your own. Now finish it: 68 + 18 is what?

Notice what didn't happen: Nikki never gave the answer. The student did the work, so the mastery record means something.

Getting into the right high school starts in middle school

If your child is taking the HSPT or the ISEE, PathwayEd offers a prep module for each: $19 a month per student, added onto any Middle School or High School plan.

Here is what makes it different from a prep course. A prep course starts from zero, because it knows nothing about your child, so it re-teaches everything just in case. Nikki already knows what your child has mastered. Prep time goes only to what the test actually adds: the question formats, the pacing, the strategy. None of it is spent re-teaching math your child has already proved they can do.

Timed sections, real structure: Practice runs mirror the real test: the same sections, the same question counts, the same clock. Test day should not be the first time your child feels the pacing.
Every wrong answer explained: A missed question becomes a short lesson on why the right answer is right, not a red mark and a total. That is the same rule the tutoring runs on.
A practice essay with feedback: The ISEE asks for a writing sample, so the ISEE module includes one. Your child writes under the real time limit and gets specific feedback on the writing, not a number.
A readiness signal for parents: You see where things stand before application season: which sections are solid, which are close, and which need more time. It is held to the same standard as everything else we report. Graded work supports it, or we do not claim it.

Meet them where they are

A grade level is an administrative fact. It tells you roughly how many birthdays a child has had, not what they can do. Every classroom in the country contains a child who is two years ahead in reading and a year behind in fractions, and is being taught as though both were untrue.

PathwayEd starts from the grade and then stops caring about it. Mastery is the source of truth. A child who has mastered the material moves on, even if that means working above their grade. A child with a gap gets the gap closed first (quietly, without being held back from everything else in the meantime).

Grade level is a starting point. It is never a ceiling.

Mastery is earned through graded work

This is the part most tools quietly get wrong, and it is the reason their dashboards feel so encouraging and mean so little. They mark a skill mastered when a child clicks through a lesson, or when the child says they understand. Children say they understand for all sorts of reasons. Wanting to be finished is one of them.

We claim mastery only when graded work supports it. That means our reports are sometimes less flattering than you were hoping for. It also means that when PathwayEd tells you your child has it, they have it. And when it tells you they are stuck, you have found something out early enough to matter.

A progress bar that only ever goes up is a marketing asset. It is not information about your child.
